Space technology for Sustainable Oceans
Water Business Forum Parallel Session C1, March 22 at DEC South Suite 2
The EXPO 2020 DUBAI is one of the world’s largest business and cultural events, and a unique platform for international cooperation. “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” is the slogan for the Expo. The focus of Norway’s participation is Pioneering Sustainable Ocean Solutions – Together.
The oceans hold the key to reaching many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Many ocean-based industries have the potential to outperform the growth of the global economy, both in terms of additional value and employment. That is only possible if we manage the ocean wisely.
Satellite data can be used to effectively monitor the world´s oceans, providing timely and targeted information about pollution, fishing activity, algae blooms, installations, wind, and waves to end-users all over the world. Detecting pollution as early as possible reduces clean-up cost and environmental impact. Uncovering illegal fishing fleets is instrumental for the protection of life in the ocean and detection of harmful algae ensure water security.
In this session in cooperation with our partner KSAT – Kongsberg Satellite Services, experts from Norway and UAE will present compelling examples from the region of good stewardship and ocean protection using space-based technology.
We hope this session will show how we can Pioneer Sustainable Ocean Solutions-Together!
