Piql

Piql is a specialist provider of digital preservation and long-term data storage. With a global footprint, we offer tailored services to a range of sectors including historical and memory, audio visual, private enterprise and government.

Our purpose-built technology can keep data alive for hundreds of years, without the need for migration. The data is secure, unalterable and can be recovered without the risk of data loss, no matter how long it is stored for. It is the only service of its kind and the only offline, migration-free technology available for long term digital preservation.

Piql’s technology has been longevity tested to last for over 1000 years, with all information still accessible. If reading technology is not available, data can be manually extracted via instructions, format and file specifications provided on the film – this ensures that the data remains accessible.  piqlFilm is also self-contained, meaning it requires no other technology to access the information. Provided there is a light source, an image capturing device and a computer, all data can be recovered.

Piql also offers storage in the Arctic World Archive(AWA), an offline vault deep in an Arctic mountain holding precious world memory. Considered one of the greenest data centres in the world and nominated for sustainability awards, the archive ensures the protection of the most sensitive and irreplaceable data for future generations. Growing all the time, the Archive holds treasures including The Scream by Edvard Munch, ancient manuscripts from the Vatican Library, historical space data from ESA, open source code from Github, records from various national archives, among many others.

Piql has a strong focus on sustainability across the organisation, with particular emphasis on technological innovation, infrastructure and policy.  We are committed to creating positive impacts in society through our technology, our solutions and the expertise of our people

With Piql’s enduring focus on the future, all technology is developed with sustainability in mind. Piql’s unique approach to digital preservation means that once information is stored it is there permanently. Other digital preservation solutions require migration to new technologies every few years, resulting in significantly more energy and waste.
